Bang & Olufsen’s Flagship Store in Copenhagen was the first based on the new global flagship store concept by Johannes Torpe Studios. The concept is to deliver a sensory experience through sound and design and the Copenhagen store was the first out of hundreds of stores, that will be implemented throughout the world over the coming years.

What do you think of the concept?

Book release from CphCph: The Night is Ours (Natten er Vores) is a book and a photo exhibition in Copenhagen, from April 11th to April 23rd at Le Fix, Kronprinsensgade 9B, Copenhagen.

I came across the boys from CphCph in 2011, while being PR & Communications Manager at Copenhagen Design Week. Their photos of urban Copenhagen fascinated me, and I became a fan from first sight. Anders and Thue, the two Copenhageners behind CphCph have now released their first book showring their fascination about the night, in an urban setting. Besides their own CphCph pictures, they have invited 5 people to contribute to the book with texts hovering around the night and the city. The 4 texts are from Peter Schepelern, associate professor in Film and Media studies, Kim Herforth Nielsen principal architect at 3XN, Sek & Sabe who has been painting graffiti since the 80’s and Simon Dokkedal an award winning DJ who finds inspiration and creativity in the night.

I couldn’t join the release party last night, but I am happy to share the news with you. And if you are in Copenhagen before April 23rd, DO visit the exhibition and buy the book ;)

Danish design: The Viggo chair designed by mencke&vagnby (Karina Mencke and Marcus Vagnby) for ShapingYourDay. They are celebrating the new launch at a release party at First Hotel Skt. Petri CPH in Copenhagen on Friday. I can’t be there, but I got the chance to show you some of the new images in a mix with already published shots.

The chair follows the tradition started by Danish designers in the 50s and 60s. Made from bent plywood as two pieces in a two-shell structure. Viggo is a part of a new collection that includes barstools, benches, dining tables and coffee tables. It comes with upholstery in various fabrics and materials. Designed in Denmark. Produced in Denmark. In every way #allgoodthingsdanish spotted by missdesignsays.

Danish design: Behind the scenes of a photo shoot with Vasanthi.dk launching the new Yarnbomb lamp designed by Tine Mouritsen and BIG by Vasanthi. The location is a great story in itself. Bryggergården is a part of Kastrupværk, built by Jacob Fortling in 1749-54. It was one of the great Danish industrial projects of the 18th century and is one of few complexes to have survived from the industrial heyday. The complex was refurbished in 2006-08 and converted into housing and commercial premises.  The factory complex was made a listed edifice in 1971 and its modern name, Bryggergården, recalls the brewery that it contained in the 19th century. This specific apartment was once the house of a ballet dancer, but since the 50’s abandoned - and now a cool location for photo shoots of all kinds. E.g. this one for Vasanthi.dk

The Crystal (Krystallen) is one of Copenhagen’s most iconic office buildings. Named “Building of The Year 2011” by Archdaily with architecture by Schmidt Hammer Lassen.

I was inside the amazing Nykredit building yesterday and had a chance to visit from top to toe. Great view to the city and habour of Copenhagen - e.g. from the cantina where employees can enjoy lunch while enjoying the view. Acoustics are remarkably good everywhere despite the open layer with two atria. The disposition of the plan allows the accommodation of open plan, separate offices or meeting rooms - all with great flexibility thanks to intelligent interior design and technical features.

It’s one of the most sustainable buildings in Copenhagen - with an exceptionally low energy-consumption at 70 kWh per square metro  The roof is covered with highly efficient photovoltaic panels generating 80,000 kWh per year. In addition, the triple-layered inner glass façade provides extremely effective thermal insulation.

Rainwater run-off is collected to be used as grey water for toilet facilities throughout the building, while sea water provides additional cooling for the building. Inside you find Danish designed furniture, lamps etc - and details with triangles as the major theme - inside out.

Outside it’s more or less “freestanding” resting on a single point and a single line. It floats as a visually light, crystalline structure above the plaza.

I can only recommend a visit here. I’ll be back during the summer, that’s for sure!
