Danish VERPAN launched the Welle lounge seating landscape series during Salone del Mobile/Milan Design Week 2014. Welle is one of the most organic forms, Verner Panton ever created, but has - until now - not been in serial production.

Welle was designed by the Danish designer Verner Panton for the Visiona 2 Exhibition in 1969 (along with the Fun Lamp and Cloverleaf Sofa). It was exhibited as a show piece.

Then why wasn’t the Welle series produced immediately back in the 60’s and 70’s? VERPAN’s Managing Director, Peter Frandsen, explains:

Maybe the cold foam technology of the day wasn’t ready for such massive forms. Perhaps Welle got lost in the visual orgy that was Visiona, next to so many other soon-to-be Panton classics. It could also be that the design itself was simply ahead of its time. At any rate, VERPAN jumped at the chance when the Panton estate agreed that the time for Welle is finally here in 2014!”

Peter Frandsen saw Salone del Mobile as the perfect place to re-introduce Welle’s funky forms. “We’ve had great success with Panton’s sophisticated but playful design in Milan,” he explains, “and il Salone attracts the kinds of people we know love Panton’s work – from Shanghai to LA and everywhere in between.”

All six of Welle’s original designs, including the one-, two- and three-person loungers and several benches, are launched. The six designs are - as most other Verner Panton designs - wildly imaginative organic forms and colourful bombs in the sleepy world of traditional contract furniture.

Danish design: Dutch bike manufacturer Batavus is collaborating with Danish fashion designer David Andersen. The Danish and the Dutch have the enthusiasm for cycling in common. This has led to the new Dutch-Danish collaboration with classic design bikes with an urban touch and a reflection of the latest fashion trends.

The bicycles designed by David Andersen for Batavus are not only fashionable. They are also sustainable as Batavus is the owner of Europe’s most sustainable bike production with own water purifying plant and green power supply.

The bikes will be launched during Spring 2014 by Batavus.

Book release from CphCph: The Night is Ours (Natten er Vores) is a book and a photo exhibition in Copenhagen, from April 11th to April 23rd at Le Fix, Kronprinsensgade 9B, Copenhagen.

I came across the boys from CphCph in 2011, while being PR & Communications Manager at Copenhagen Design Week. Their photos of urban Copenhagen fascinated me, and I became a fan from first sight. Anders and Thue, the two Copenhageners behind CphCph have now released their first book showring their fascination about the night, in an urban setting. Besides their own CphCph pictures, they have invited 5 people to contribute to the book with texts hovering around the night and the city. The 4 texts are from Peter Schepelern, associate professor in Film and Media studies, Kim Herforth Nielsen principal architect at 3XN, Sek & Sabe who has been painting graffiti since the 80’s and Simon Dokkedal an award winning DJ who finds inspiration and creativity in the night.

I couldn’t join the release party last night, but I am happy to share the news with you. And if you are in Copenhagen before April 23rd, DO visit the exhibition and buy the book ;)
